About

East Boulder Pond & Creek Walk

A flat, easy walk from the East Boulder Community Center, circling the pond and following the South Boulder Creek Trail north through open meadow, with views of the Flatirons and Baseline Reservoir.

ROUTE: Circle the pond on the paved path. Head to the Bobolink Trailhead, north on the trail. Once we reach the Bobolink trailhead, turn around and head back to the East Boulder Community Center.

TYPE: Monthly walk

PACE: Gentle, 1–2 mph: steady, comfortable steps, with a rest stop at the pond and at the turnaround.

TERRAIN:

• Hills: Mostly flat, with only small, gentle slopes.
• Surface:
Wide paved and packed-gravel paths. The gravel can be soft or muddy after rain or snow.
• Crossings:
No stairs and no road crossings. We turn around before reaching Baseline Road.
• Hazards:
Bikes and runners share the trail (stay to the right and listen for riders calling out), full sun with little shade on the creek trail and wildlife such as rattlesnakes in warm months. Stay on the path.
• Facilities:
Restrooms and water are inside the community center only. There is no water on the trail.
• Who it suits:
A good fit for most walkers, including beginners and anyone who prefers flat, even ground.

DISTANCE: About 2 miles, one hour.

ELEVATION GAIN: Almost none.

PLACE: Meet in front of the main entrance of the East Boulder Community Center, 5660 Sioux Drive. The walk starts and ends here. The walk will begin promptly at 10:35, so arrive by 10:30am.

Getting there: Parking is available. The 225, 206, and DASH buses serve stops less than a mile from the starting point. Lime scooter parking is also available near the Community Center.

PREPARE:

• Wear comfortable, supportive walking shoes
• Bring walking poles or a cane, if you normally use one
• Bring a water bottle, sun protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, layers or a wind jacket; the open meadow can be cool and breezy in the morning.
