The Cold Moon’s Glow: Winter Adaptations Under the December Full Moon

About
Winter is a time of both magic and challenge. Under the glow of December’s Cold Moon, we’ll explore how life endures the season’s extremes through remarkable adaptations. Join us for an easy 1-mile moonlit walk around the trails and boardwalks at Sombrero Marsh as we discover the ecological significance of winter and how plants, animals, and insects adapt to survive the cold. Along the way, we’ll pause to experience the wonder of the moonlit landscape, notice how light and shadow shape nocturnal life, and reflect on the rhythms of rest and resilience shared by all living things — including us. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring water, headlamp and/or redlight to keep our night vision, hat/gloves and dress in layers for changing temperatures.
