Build a Native Bee House

Although this year’s bees have already found their homes for the winter, we can plan for next year’s bees nesting in spring or summer. Open Space and Mountain Parks and Butterfly Pavilion team up for a hands-on morning of bee science, a short garden tour and a craft.  The program will start with a short talk on why Boulder's native bee species matter so much to our open space landscapes, paired with a chance to experience the Ann Armstrong Memorial Native Garden. Then you can build your own bee house using natural and recycled materials, giving next year's bees a safe place to overwinter and raise their young. With a little yearly cleaning, your bee house can last for years, and we'll show you how to refresh it with affordable materials each season. Come spend a relaxed morning outside, learn about the pollinators that share our landscapes, and make a craft that brings nature closer to home.
